Preparing for a new school year can be a bit overwhelming for teachers, but it doesn’t have to be. With the right approach and proper planning, the transition from summer to school can be smooth and successful.

Look at the Big Picture

By taking a look at the big picture (the prior school year) and analyzing what worked well and what didn’t, teachers can create an updated plan for the next school year.

For example, maybe a certain teaching technique, such as using technology for math, was well received by students and conducive to their learning, making it a sure carry-over for the upcoming school year. On the other hand, if students struggled with a certain social studies chapter, teachers might want to rethink the way they teach it in the future.

It should be noted that this approach goes beyond just teaching and learning.

Teachers should also identify successes and failures related to student discipline, parent-teacher communication and overall classroom atmosphere (rules, seating arrangements, etc.) if they want to prepare an updated plan for the new school year that covers all the bases.
